With the recent decision to approach a third runway and new terminal at Heathrow, as opposed to Gatwick, Heathrow Airport Holdings are now putting together a proposal that will be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Inspectorate during 2019. Rounds of public consultations will be held in the lead up to this.
The Department for Transport stated that the new runway could bring economic benefits to passengers, the local area and the wider economy, which could be worth up to £61bn and also create almost 80,000 additional local jobs over the next 14 years.
It’s been a divisive decision, with MP’s resigning and Boris Johnson stating this would be 'undeliverable'.
Heathrow said the expansion would allow it to offer more direct flights to UK destinations as well as up to 40 new cities abroad.
